Cathay Cineplexes Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of Cathay Organization Holdings (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a 100% subsidiary of Cathay Organization Private Limited (Singapore).

1936 marked the launch of Cathay’s first cinema, The Pavilion, in Kuala Lumpur. Five years later, Cathay Organisation Holdings Ptd Ltd opened with a big bang in Singapore, sweeping audiences off their feet with its revolutionary air-conditioned 1,300-seat plush auditorium and seats as comfy as armchairs. 1960s saw Cathay blazing a brilliant trail with over 70 cinemas in Malaysia and Singapore. Today, Cathay is one of the key players in the entertainment, leisure and lifestyle industry bringing adventure and fun to people from all walks of life.

Cathay Cineplexes, incorporated in 1998, owns 28 screens in Malaysia and 13 screens in Singapore, garnering numerous accolades and awards from the public and the media.

Formerly known as Mega Pavilion Cinemas, Cathay Cineplexes was first established in Penang at Kompleks Bukit Jambul in 1997. Standing proud with a 24,000 sq ft 6-screen premise, we were the first cineplex to offer ergonomically designed seats with
the widest legroom in the industry.

We are proud to have spread our wings with four more cineplexes, namely Johor Bahru City Square, Prangin Mall Penang, Cathay Cineplex Kota Kinabalu and the newest addition, Cathay Cineplex Damansara.

The change in name from Mega Pavilion Cinemas to Cathay Cineplexes is aimed at enhancing and strengthening the Cathay brand in Malaysia and is a reminder of its association to Cathay in Singapore.

With our new flagship multiplex at the Cineleisure Damansara, Cathay Cineplex Damansara looks forward in changing the lifestyle of movie-going experience.
